Flying Dress Photoshoot in Paris

A flying dress photoshoot in Paris takes one to two hours. It works best at sunrise, when the esplanade is empty and there is room to open the fabric. We provide the dress, we handle the throws, and you never touch the camera or the silk.

A flying dress needs three things: space, wind and someone throwing the fabric on cue. Two of those we control. The third is why we shoot this at sunrise, when the air moves gently and steadily instead of gusting, and why we always keep a sheltered second spot in the plan.

Where a flying dress works in Paris

Space is the whole requirement.

Trocadéro esplanade
The obvious one, and the best. Space, symmetry and the Tower. Only usable before the crowd arrives.
The Louvre courtyard
Glass, symmetry and a horizon. At dawn there is nobody to walk into and the fabric has the whole courtyard to open in.
Pont de Bir-Hakeim
The arches frame the dress and the bridge channels the wind. Ten minutes here is often enough.
The Arc de Triomphe and the avenues
Wide pavements, long perspectives and stone on every side. Where we go when the dress needs more room than a bridge can give.

Photographer tip

Sunrise, not sunset. The wind at the Trocadéro is calmer in the morning, the esplanade is empty, and a dress that fills the frame needs both of those things.

How a flying dress session runs

What actually happens on the day.

We bring and throw the dress
You stand, we place the fabric and throw it on cue. It takes several attempts per frame and that is normal.
Choose the colour for the light
Red and burgundy at sunrise, cream and white at blue hour, black for contrast against pale stone.
Movement, not poses
Walking, turning, arms out. A dress looks alive in motion and flat when you stand still.
A second pair of hands helps
On the biggest dresses we recommend adding our assistant. Someone resetting the fabric between throws changes how many frames are usable.

The dress, and what to bring with it

We provide the dress and we bring a choice of colours. Wear a plain nude or matching underlayer and simple shoes: the dress covers everything, so the only things visible are your shoulders, your face and your feet.

Bring a coat for between the frames, even in summer. Sunrise on the Trocadéro esplanade is cold and windy, and you will spend more time waiting for the wind than being photographed.

Frequently asked

How much does a flying dress photoshoot cost?

From €450 for the session, plus €200 for the dress. Two hours and two spots is €850 plus the dress.

Do you provide the dress?

Yes, from €200, in several colours and lengths. Tell us your height and the colour you want when you book.

Can a couple do a flying dress session?

Yes, and it is one of our favourite formats - one person in the dress, the other in the frame with it.

What if there is no wind?

We throw the fabric ourselves, which is how most of these images are made anyway. Wind helps but is not required.

What is the best time?

Sunrise. Calmer air, empty esplanade, warm low light on the fabric.

Can we do this at Versailles?

Yes, and it is the best option for the longest dresses. Versailles is your usual package plus a travel supplement.
